Albert Santos

Albert Santos age 81 of Fairhaven, died Wednesday, November 11, 2009 after a long illness. He died at the Royal of Fairhaven. He was the son of the late Valentino and Adelina (Castro) Santos. Mr. Santos was born in New Bedford and lived there most of his life. He retired from the city of New Bedford in 1991 after 36 years in the cemetery department, the last 7 1/2 as the superintentdent. The greenhouse in Pine Grove cemetery is dedicated to Albert. He was a WW II U.S. Navy veteran, a member of the VFW Tuttle Post in Acushnet, the Lions Club and the Panthers Athletic and Social club. Survivors include his sister-in-law Mary Santos of New Bedford; his brother-in-law Domingos Sylvia of New Bedford and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Antone Santos, Manuel Santos, John Santos, Domingos Santos, Izaura Sylvia, Rose Medeiros and Mary Santos. He was the longtime companion of the late Violet Hodson. His funeral procession will meet  Tuesday 11am at the funeral home, followed by a graveside service at Pine Grove cemetery at 12pm. Visitation will be Monday 5-7pm.
