Alfredo Martins

Alfredo Rodrigues Martins 91 of New Bedford passed away Tuesday April 26, 2011 at the Sacred Heart Home. He was the husband of Arminda (Zacharias) Martins and son of the late Jose Martins and Maria Tenreiro. He was born in Freixo Da Serra, Gouveia, Portugal and had lived in New Bedford since 1959. He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception church. Mr. Martins was formerly employed in the construction industry as a laborer in Conn. and then at Windsor Gardens until his retirement. He loved working in his garden and grapevine and being with his family. He was a member of the Portuguese American Athletic Club. Survivors include his wife; his sons Armando Martins and his wife Virginia of New Bedford, Jorge Martins and his wife Linda of New Bedford, Jose Martins and his wife Luisa of Fairhaven; his daughter Benvinda Da Costa and her husband Urgel of New Bedford; his brother Alexandre Martins of Melo, Gouveia, Portugal; 10 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Antonio Rodrigues and Armando Martins. His funeral mass will be said 9am Friday at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception church. Visiting hours are Thursday 5-8 pm. Burial will be in Pine Grove cemetery.
