Carmel Basilio

August 16, 1918 — February 23, 2017

Carmel (Amarante) Basilio 98 of New Bedford passed away Thursday February 23, 2017 at St. Luke’s hospital. She was the wife of the late Albertino V. Basilio and daughter of the late Joseph and Olivia Amarante. She was born in Terceira, Azores and had lived in New Bedford for 66 years. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Church. Carmel was formerly employed as a stitcher at Calvin Clothing until her retirement. She was a big supporter of the Clube Sport Madeirense and enjoyed attending many of the activities there. She also enjoyed going to Supreme Donuts and being in the company of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include her son Joseph Silva and his wife Cheryl of New Bedford and her daughter Maria Gill and her husband Joe of New Bedford; her grandchildren Kristi Mendoza, Jami Mello, Marissa Gill and Kayla Amaral; her great grandchildren Charlotte Mello, Harper Mello and Mason Mendoza. Carmel’s family would like to thank the staff at Alden Court for the care and kindness extend to her. Her funeral mass will be said 9am Monday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Church. Visiting hours are Sunday 4-7pm. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery.
