Dorothy Motta

Dorothy (Bento) Motta 89 of Rochester, formerly of New Bedford passed away Saturday July 13, 2013 at St. Luke’s hospital. She was the widow of Joaquim “Jack” Motta and daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Casmiro) Bento. She was born in New Bedford and lived here most of her life. Mrs. Motta was a communicant of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church. She was employed as a stitcher for Bonnie Lane and also for Bunny Manufacturing until her retirement. She was a babysitter at Healthtrax for 20 years.  Survivors include her son Richard Motta and his wife Donna of New Bedford; her daughters Madeline Duarte and her husband Steven of Rochester, and Nancy Hopkins and her husband Brian of Yarmouthport; her brother James Bento of Marion; her sisters Mabel Calheta of Rochester, Beatrice Duarte of New Bedford; 3 grandchildren Andrew Hopkins, Katherine Hopkins and Michael Duarte; 2 great-grandsons Michael Duarte Jr. and Benjamin Duarte, several nieces and nephews. She was the grandmother of the late Melissa Duarte and sister of the late Hilda Fernandes. Her funeral mass will be said  9am Wednesday at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church. Visiting hours are Tuesday  5-8 pm. Burial will be in Pine Grove cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Melissa Duarte Foundation 25 Bennett Road Rochester, MA 02770.
