New Bedford Edmund J. Nobrega 80 of New Bedford passed away Friday July 15, 2011 at St. Luke’s Hopsital after a long illness. He was the husband of the late Clotilde “Tillie” (Vaz) Nobrega and the son of Manuel Nobrega and Mary (Freitas)Fernandes. Born in New Bedford he was a life long resident of New Bedford. Edmund worked at the Phillips Avenue school in New Bedford as a Custodian. He was a co-founder of Gary's Best Hot Dogs. He enjoyed organizing senior trips and loved painting, dancing and music. Edmund was a Korean War Veteran serving in the United States Navy.He is survived by a daughter, Anita Franco and husband Joe of Acushnet; A brother, Daniel Nobrega of New Bedford; A grandson, Gary Franco of Acushnet; his loving fiancé, Sherry Margeson, his dog Precious and many nieces and nephews. Edmund’s funeral mass will held Tuesday 9am and St. Francis Xavier with burial to follow at Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Monday evening 5-8pm at the Boulevard Funeral Home.
