Eileen Alves

Eileen (Santos) Alves 89 of New Bedford passed away Friday May 23, 2014 at the Sacred Heart Home. She was the widow of John A. Alves and daughter of the late Joseph and Virginia (Thumundo) Santos. She was a lifelong New Bedford resident. She was a communicant of St. Joseph – St. Therese Church. Mrs. Alves was formerly employed as a machine operator at Aerovox; she also worked at Kay Windsor and at the Sunbeam Bakery thrift shop. She loved being at home with her family. Survivors include her son Michael J. Alves; her daughters Linda Mello and her husband Edward; Susan Arsenault and her husband Robert; Donna Hale and her husband Dennis all of New Bedford; her sister Margaret Audette of New Bedford; her grandchildren Melissa, Kelly, John, Robert Jr., Nicky, Kenny, Chris and Dee. She also has 18 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Virginia Pereira, William Santos, Gilbert Santos and Dorothy Santos. Her funeral mass will be said 10am Wednesday at St. Joseph – St. Therese Church. Cremation will follow. Visiting hours are Tuesday 5-8pm.
