Eugene Savage 87 of New Bedford passed away Thursday February 11, 2016 at the Royal Taber St. Nursing Home. He was the husband of the late Geraldine (Evangelho) Savage and son of the late Daniel and Mary (Sylvia) Savage. He was born in New Bedford and was a lifelong resident. Mr. Savage was a communicant of the Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. He was formerly employed as a machine operator at John I. Paulding until his retirement. Eugene was a U.S. Army WWII veteran, serving in the Engineer Corps of the 21st infantry in Japan. He was a member of the Army Reserves and attained the rank of Master Sergeant; he was also a certified Merchant Seaman. He was a lifetime member of the Luzo American club. He loved spending time with his friends and dancing. His family would like to send a special thank you to Project Independence, Active Day and to the staff of the Royal Taber St. Nursing Home. He was the beloved father of Brenda McGee and her husband William of New Bedford and Susan Henry of CA. Beloved grandfather of Jessica Kemble and her husband Jonathan, Rebecca Wooler and her husband Jeffery and Melissa Cote. Beloved great-grandfather of Kayton Chmielewski, Brynn Kemble and Megan Kemble. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Beatrice Savage, his cousin Ramona Bettencourt also many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Donald Savage and Dolete Savage. His funeral mass will be said 10am Friday at The Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Visiting hours will be Thursday 4-7pm. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
