Hector M Barriga

Hector M Barriga, 54 of New Bedford, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, August 30^th after a long illness. Born in New Bedford he was the son of Francisco Barriga and the late Zelinda Barriga. Hector graduated from New Bedford Vocational Highschool where he studied automotive. He was an expert in every facet of automobile restoration, which was his passion, second only to his much-loved daughter and family. He is survived by his father; daughter, Emma Barriga of New Bedford; sisters, Celina Spirlet and significant other, Mark Sokol of Acushnet, Maria Barriga; brothers, Arthur Barriga of New Bedford, Alpoim Barriga of New Bedford, Francisco Barriga of New Bedford, Fernando Barriga and wife Cathy of Lakeville; Uncle, Hector Barriga and wife Angela; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. A special thank you to Carol Fitzgerald for her kind and compassionate care through the last few years and the staff at Southcoast VNA especially, Pam. In accordance with his wishes, Hector will be cremated. A Memorial Service will be held at the Boulevard Funeral Home, 223 Ashley Blvd New Bedford on Sunday, September 4^th from 2-4pm.
