Humberto M. Lopes

Humberto M. Lopes, 81, of New Bedford, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday, July 12, 2026.

Born in Algarvia, São Miguel, Azores, Portugal, he was the son of the late José P. Lopes and Maria do Carmo (Medeiros) Lopes. He was the beloved husband of Lidia (Visinho) Lopes, with whom he shared 60 wonderful years of marriage.

After immigrating to the United States in 1972, Humberto dedicated his life to his family and hard work. He worked for many years as an auto body repair technician at Luzo Auto Body, where he was known for his dedication, strong work ethic, and pride in his work. This led him to own a transportation business for over 40 years, providing rides and transportation to the community and making lasting friendships until his retirement. 

Humberto enjoyed traveling back to his hometown in the Azores to visit family and friends. He was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and loyal friend. He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and the lasting impression he left on everyone fortunate enough to have know him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lidia; his daughters, Maria Reina and her husband, Alex, Lucy Pimental and her late husband, Joseph "Joe" Pimental, and Anabela Azevedo and her husband, Christopher; his sons, Robert Lopes and David Lopes and his significant other, Kelly Camara; his sister, Laudalina Bernardo; his brothers, Armindo Lopes and Tiberio Lopes; his grandchildren, Ryan Reina, Alexandra Reina, Korey J. Pimental, Austin J. Pimental, Brett Lopes, Nicholas Lopes, Samantha Lopes, Joshua Lopes, Tyler Oliveira, Nathan Oliveira, Ethan Lopes; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and godchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, José Lopes.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 16th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Boulevard Funeral Home. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 17th at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery.
