Jean Gomes

Jean Elizabeth (Costa) Gomes, 74 of New Bedford, died unexpectedly on September 21, 2009. She resided at the Sacred Heart Home, New Bedford. She was the wife of the late John P. Gomes and was the daughter of the late Eugene and Alberta (Allard) Costa. She was born and raised in Oak Bluffs, Martha's Vineyard before moving to New Bedford many years ago.Jean attended Active Adult Day Center for many years, where she loved to dance, sing and play bingo. She mostly enjoyed spending time with her children. Survivors include her son Timothy Gomes; daughters Robin Voisine and her husband Robert, Pamela Martin, Tammy Gomes, Rebecca Gomes and step-daughter Isabel Thomas all of New Bedford. 5 grandchildren Jason Martin, Wayne Martin, Harry Parsons, Sterling Gomes and John Thomas Jr; 5 great-grandchildren Jaylynn Martin, Kamron Parsons, Madison, Avery, and Kendall Thomas, her sister Elaine Carroll of Martha's Vineyard, several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Shawn Gomes. Her Funeral service will be 9am Saturday at the funeral home. Visitation will be Friday 5-8pm. Burial will be in St. John's cemetery.
