John Fernandes Jr.

John Fernandes Jr. 79 of New Bedford passed away Sunday August 22, 2010 at St. Luke’s hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Alma (Bryant) Fernandes and son of the late John and Frances (Correia) Fernandes. He was born in New Bedford and was a lifelong resident. Mr. Fernandes Jr. was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima church. He was formerly employed as a salesman for United Liquors until his retirement. He was also a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War. Survivors include his wife, his son Christopher Fernandes of New Bedford; his brother Anibal Fernandes of Florida; his sisters Mary DaCosta, Agnes Santos and Carmen Alves all of New Bedford; several nieces and nephews. His funeral mass with his cremated remains present will be Monday 10am at Our Lady of Fatima Church. Burial will be in Pine Grove cemetery. Visiting hours are kindly omitted.
