Laurinda Freitas

Laurinda "Lorraine" (Nunes) Freitas, 97, of New Bedford passed away at Hathaway Manor Extended Care Facility on January 30th, 2022. She was born in New Bedford the daughter of the late Jose Nunes and Rosa (Vieira) Nunes and wife of the late Carlos "Duke" Freitas. Laurinda was a fierce friend and touched the lives of so many people she met. She loved life to the fullest and enjoyed her daily coffee and walks to the Subway on Pleasant Street. An enormous acknowledgement goes out to the teams at Hathaway Manor, St. Luke's Hospital and Community Hospice for the compassionate and kind care they offered. Laurinda is survived by her son, Dennis Freitas and wife Kathryn of Acushnet; daughter, Gail Freitas of New Bedford; grandson, Jarrod Freitas and wife, Cathy of Acushnet; Nephews, Jay Nunes, who is also her godchild, Todd Nunes, Marc Nunes, James Gouveia; nieces, Shirley Darcy, Donna Mamarais, who is also her godchild; many other relatives and close friends, Del and Joey Goncalves. She is predeceased by her brothers; Albert Nunes, Joseph Nunes, Manuel Nunes, sister; Rosa Nunes; and niece, Madeline Carrancho. In accordance with her wishes she was cremated with Funeral Mass to be held April 9, 2022 at 9am at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception with burial to follow in St. John's Cemetery.
