Louis R. Carreiro

Louis R. Carreiro, 87, of New Bedford, passed away at St. Luke's Hospital on Monday, August 24, 2026. Born in Água Retorta, São Miguel, Azores, Portugal, he was the son of the late Luiz P. Carreiro and the late Maria M. (Resendes) Carreiro, and a loving husband to Barbara (Marmelo) Carreiro.

After immigrating to the United States in 1951, Louis worked for many years as a Production Manager for Cliftex Corp. Following his retirement, he stayed active by helping repair and sell sewing machines at his spouse's business, Barbara’s Sewing Center. He was a longtime member of the New Bedford Sports Club and the Madeira Club.

Louis is survived by his wife, Barbara; son, Louis Carreiro, and his wife, Karen; daughter, Nancy Gomes, and her husband, John; brother, Norbert Carreiro and his wife, Olga; sister, Mary Sousa; grandchildren, Alison Stephens, Louis Carreiro, Erica Gomes, Chelsea Gomes, Adam Fonseca, Andrew Fonseca; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his sons, Jeri Carreiro, Chris Carreiro, Steven Fonseca; and brothers, Manuel Carreiro and Joe Carreiro.

His visitation will be held on Thursday, September 3rd, from 8:00 am - 10:00 am at the Boulevard Funeral Home, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish at 10:30 am. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
