Manuel Moniz Benevides

Manuel Moniz Benevides, 78, of Fairhaven, passed away while at home surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday, July 20, 2023.

Born in Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal, he was the son of the late Jose Moniz Benevides and the late Georgina (Medeiros) Benevides.

He was the husband of the late Laura M. (Faria) Benevides; the father of the late Hildeberto Manuel M. Benevides and brother of the late Jose Benevides.

He was a skilled concrete construction worker and hardly turned away from a side job. Anyone who knew him knew that he was a very proud family man. Manuel was very social, loved soccer and he was always joking around and enjoyed playing cards with friends.

In his younger years, he enjoyed playing the saxophone. He was a part of his church’s band and also proudly served in the Portuguese armed forces.

Manuel is survived by his daughter Laura M. and her husband Paul DosSantos of New Bedford, Nelson M. and his wife Victoria Benevides of Fairhaven, Sidonio M. and his wife Erika Benevides of Fairhaven.

Manuel also leaves behind his brother John Tome (of Canada); his sisters, Maria Sousa (of Portugal), Lidia Lopes, Lucia Silva and Valdemura Garcia (all residents of Canada). His Grandchildren; Alyssa Duval and husband Andrew, Brennan Benevides, Kasen Benenvides, Sydney Benevides and Janessa Benevides; a Great Grandchild, Elliot Duval and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Monday, July 24th from 6-8pm at Boulevard Funeral Home, 223 Ashley Blvd New Bedford. A Funeral Mass will be said on Tuesday, July 25th at 10am at St. Joseph Church in Fairhaven. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery.
