Manuel D Machado, 89, of New Bedford, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, November 27, 2025 at St. Luke's Hospital. Born in Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal, Manuel was the son of the late Antonio and Emilia Machado. He was the loving, dedicated and caring husband to Maria Angelina (Almeida) Machado for 65 years.
Before settling in New Bedford in 1975, Manuel migrated to Bermuda where he resided for 10 years. Upon arriving in the south coast, he worked for a brief time at FB Rogers Silver Factory before starting Machado's Landscaping, which is now owned and operated by his sons. Manuel was a devout catholic and long time parishioner of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church. He volunteered his time and skills liberally, tending to the landscape at the church and going door to door to collect pledges for the parish. Manuel was a 2004 recipient of the Marian Medal and member of the Immaculate Conception Charismatic Group. When not volunteering at church, he could be found making wine from the grapes in his garden which he tended with great care, giving surplus produce to his friends and family in the neighborhood.
Manuel is survived by his wife, Maria Angelina; daughter, Fatima Simas and her husband Victor; sons, Antonio Machado and his wife Tamara, George Machado and his wife Amy; grandchildren; Angelina Fahey and her husband Paul, Eva Shuman and her husband Alec, Philip Machado and his wife Alexis, Andrew Simas, Nicole Simas; great grandchildren, Vivian Shuman, Mia Fahey and several nieces, nephews.
