Maria Calaz

Maria (Alves) Calaz, 79 of New Bedford, passed away on November 10, 2022. Born in Montalegre, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Domingos Alves and Maria (Fontes) Alves. Maria worked for many years at Cliftex before starting her own housekeeping business, that she ran for 25 years. She enjoyed activities with her grandchildren, socializing with her family and good friends, and gardening. Maria is survived by her son, Domingos Calaz and wife, Maria Marilyn Porreca; grandchildren, Domenica Amore "Nica"Calaz, Carmina Rose "Nina" Calaz; sister, Amelia Pinto and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her brother, Joaquim "Jack" Maia. Her Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, November 17th at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church at 10:30am, all are welcomed to join us at the Funeral Home at 9:30am. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, from 5 to 8pm at the Boulevard Funeral Home, 223 Ashley Blvd, New Bedford. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Cancer Society in Maria's Memory.  A Repast Reception to share a meal and fond memories of Maria will immediately follow the funeral services at Inner Bay Café & Grille - 1339 Cove Rd, New Bedford, MA
