Maria Furtado

Maria (Soares) Furtado, 93, of New Bedford, passed away at St. Luke's Hospital on Saturday, July 5, 2025. Born in Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Manuel Soares and the late Teresa Soares and loving wife to the late Leonildo Furtado. 

Maria was a devout Christian, who enjoyed reading the bible and singing songs of praise. She had a passion for cooking and loved to share her favorite Portuguese recipes with friends and family. Her greatest joy in life was her family and spending as much quality time with them as possible.

Maria is survived by her daughter, Grace Furtado; sons, Joao Furtado and his companion Bernadette Teixeira, Carlos Furtado and his wife Delores, Leonildo Furtado and his wife Carmen; grandchildren, Freddy, Ramona, Samantha, Hunter, Grace, Natalia; great grandchildren, Jayleana, Nevaeh, Jeremiah, Davi and many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. She is preceded in death by her siblings, Virginio Soares and Ema Soares.
