Maria L. Valadao

Maria L Valadao, 83, of New Bedford passed away at Sacred Heart Nursing Home on February 5, 2019. She was the wife of the late Manuel C Valadao and daughter of the late Luis Machado and Maria Luz Barcelos. Maria was born in Lajes, Terceira, Azores, Portugal and came to the United States in 1974. She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church. Maria worked as a stitcher for Calvin Clothes for many years. Survivors include her daughter, Helia Carreiro and husband Rogerio of New Bedford; Daughter-in-law, Olga Valadao of New Bedford; Brother, Jose Eduardo Machado of New Bedford; Sisters, Maria Teresa Medeiros of New Bedford and Lucia Erickson of Idaho; Grandchildren, Ryan Valadao and wife Kathy Arruda-Valadao and Kimberly Carreiro; great grandchildren Grace Valadao and Madilyn Valadao; and many nieces and nephews. Maria is predeceased by her son, Adriano Valadao; and siblings Francisco Machado and Ilda Quadros. The family would like to specially thank Esmeralda Lopes for the heartfelt care given to Maria while at home and the Sacred Heart Nursing Home staff from Unit 3C. Maria’s visitation will be held Friday from 5-8pm. Her Funeral Mass will be Saturday at 9am at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
