Pauline Marie (Poirier) Gouveia, 92, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on September 4, 2025, at Brandon Woods of Dartmouth. She was the beloved wife of the late Jose Gouveia Jr., daughter of the late John E. and Anna (Turcotte) Poirier, and sister of the late George L. Poirier and Albert Poirier.
Born in Fall River on March 6, 1933, Pauline spent most of her life in New Bedford. She also lived in Germany for three years while her husband was stationed there with the Army, and often spoke fondly of her time abroad. Pauline dedicated her career to caring for others as a registered nurse, working at St. Anne’s Hospital and later as a private duty nurse.
Her greatest joys were spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved playing board games—her favorite being Scrabble—as well as cards and crossword puzzles. She enjoyed traveling abroad, tending her rock garden, and sharing her passion for cooking with her loved ones.
She is survived by her children: Anne Marie Remendos, Kathie Gouveia Perron, and Jose “Junior” Gouveia III; her grandchildren: Jonathan Remendos, Kimberly Remendos, Jedediah Perron, and Cheyenne (Perron) Limauro; and her great-grandchild, Addison, with another on the way.
In accordance with her wishes, Pauline will be cremated. A Mass in her memory will be celebrated at St. Gabriel the Archangel Church in New Bedford on October 15, 2025, at 8:00 a.m.
