Romeo J. Genard, Jr., 76, of New Bedford, died unexpectedly at St. Luke’s Hospital on August 9, 2024. He was the son of Romeo J. Genard, Sr., and Muriel (Seguin) Genard.
“Gino” lived all of his life in New Bedford. He worked for many years for Eastern Sportswear Corp., before establishing a house painting business. He was funny, irreverent, and frequently a bad boy, and his friends loved him for it. He had a great many friendships throughout his life, and enjoyed long-lasting and caring relationships from them. Friendship was probably the core element of his life. He was a huge sports fan, and loved the New England Patriots. An avid bowler in his youth, he later played in amateur softball leagues, sometimes managing the teams as well. If you wanted him to smile, you only had to ask to take a picture of him sitting on his Harley.
He is survived by his sister, Audrey Romero, of Virginia Beach, VA, and her children and grandchildren, his brother Gary Genard of Arlington, MA and his family, and his many loyal and beloved friends from the North End.
A Graveside service will be held on Friday, August 16, 2024 at 9:30am at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
