Rose M. Ross, 81, of Acushnet passed away Thursday, July 23, 2020 at home with her family by her side after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Rose was the loving wife of the late J. Arthur Ross to whom she was married for 59 years.
Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Joseph and Rosalina (Bertoldo) Correia, she lived most of her life in Acushnet and was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church of New Bedford. Rose graduated from Dartmouth High School, class of 1956.
Rose was a devoted and caring daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother to her family. She was known for preparing hearty meals, keeping an immaculately clean home and caring for family members in need- all of which she took great pride in. She was especially fond of family gatherings for holidays, birthdays or other milestones where she always ensured great food and desserts were in abundance. In retirement, she enjoyed gardening and doting on her four grandchildren who called her “Grams.”
Rose worked at Sears for 25 years providing great customer service and making many lifelong friends whom she enjoyed spending time in retirement.
She is survived by three sons and a daughter: Karl D. Ross of New Bedford; Darlene M. Peixoto and her husband Stephen of New Bedford; Dean A. Ross and his partner Ted Ngo of Riverside, RI; and Thomas E. Ross and his wife Kerrie L. Bellisario of Morristown, NJ; and four grandchildren, Anthony R. Peixoto; Stephanie M. Peixoto; Cameron J. Ross; and Nathaniel J. Ross.
Rose was the sister of the late Irene Correia, who died from influenza as a toddler.
Visiting hours are 8-9:30AM, Tuesday, July 28, 2020 followed by a Celebration of Rose’s Life at 10:00AM at St. Mary’s Church, 343 Tarkiln Hill Road, New Bedford. Burial will be immediately after the services at Sacred Heart Cemetery in New Bedford. All attendees are required to wear face coverings and practice social distancing.
