Susana Serra

Susana B. (Castro) Serra 62 of New Bedford passed away Saturday December 8, 2012 at St. Luke’s hospital, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was the wife of Bruce Serra she was also the daughter of Ana Maria (D’Aguiar) Castro of New Bedford and the late Dr. Antonio Castro. She was a lifelong New Bedford resident. Susana was employed by the New Bedford School Dept. as a bi-lingual teacher for 34 years. She was a graduate of Sacred Hearts Academy in Fairhaven and Bishop Stang High School. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish from Salve Regina College, her Masters degree in Spanish from Boston College, she also studied at the University of Madrid in Spain. Susana loved to travel to Florida. Survivors include her husband, her mother, her dear friend Mary E. Salmon of Westport. She was the sister of the late Dr. Mark Castro. Her funeral mass, with her cremated remains present, will be celebrated at St. Mary’s church in South Dartmouth on Saturday December 29, 2012 at 11am. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Sacred Heart Home.
