Victor F. Rebello Jr., 84, of New Bedford, passed away at home on Wednesday, January 5 5th , after a brief battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Elsie M. (Freitas) Rebello and the son of the late Victor F. Rebello and Emilia (Santos) Rebello. Victor was born and lived in the north end of New Bedford his entire life. He served during World War II as a Pharmacist Mate, Third Class in the U.S. Navy. Victor graduated from the Boston School of Pharmacy (now Northeastern University) in 1948. His career as a pharmacist spanned 63 years – having worked at several local family-owned pharmacies – beginning his career at Bettencourt Pharmacy. Victor worked 40 years as pharmacist/manager at Marcoux/Silva Pharmacy. He also worked at Smith Mills Pharmacy; and for the past 10 years, he was employed at PharmaHealth Pharmacy.Victor was actively involved in the community throughout his life. He was one of the four founding members of the Immaculate Conception School Fund Drive; he served as Secretary of the New Bedford Board of Welfare, and was a member of the New Bedford Board of Health. He was the past President of the SEMA Pharmaceutical Association and the New Bedford Pharmaceutical Association. Victor was past Diocesan President of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society and a long-time member of the Society. Survivors include his wife Elsie of 62 years; his son, Victor F. Rebello III and his wife, Rosemary of Dartmouth; daughter Jayne Rebello Korn and her husband, John of Needham; daughter Marietta Deegan and her husband, Robert of Fairhaven; grandson Adam R. Rebello and his wife Christina; granddaughter Abigail D. Rebello; great-granddaughter, Grace Heidi Rebello; sisters Hilda S. Riley and Aida R. Souza, and brother Joseph F. Rebello; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Abel S. Rebello. He is also survived by his biological daughter, Margaret (Meg) Curtis and her late husband, Charles W. Curtis, and family of Hillsborough, NH. His funeral Mass will be held on Monday, 9 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in New Bedford. Visitation will be Sunday 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be private. Memorial donations may be made in Victor’s name to the Saint Vincent de Paul Society at Immaculate Conception Parish, 136 Earle St., New Bedford, MA 02746.
