Cecilia Fernandes

Cecilia (Mourao) Fernandes, 71, of New Bedford passed away November 25, 2021 at home after a long, courageous battle with ALS. She was born in Cervos, Portugal to the late Artur Mourao and the late Ana (Dias) Mourao. She was the former wife of Abilio Fernandes. She came to the United States in 1961 as a young child. She was an accountant for YSI and worked for Coyne Textile prior. She loved dancing and music and adored her Shih Tzu, Missy. She is survived by her sons; Derek Fernandes and girlfriend Stephanie Ferreira of Dartmouth and Matthew Fernandes and companion Megan Alves of Rochester, brothers; Arlindo and wife Fernanda Mourao of New Bedford, Jaime and wife Peggy Mourao of Marion, Jose Mourao of New Bedford, and Robert and wife Lynn Mourao of Mattapoisett, sister; Maria and husband Carlos Machado of Acushnet, granddaughters; Juliana and Aria, grandson; Weston, and many nieces and nephews. Cecilia is preceded in death by her nephews, Chad Mourao and Phillip Mourao. Her Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at St. Gabriel Archangel, formerly St. Mary's of New Bedford at 10am. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 from 4pm-7pm at Boulevard Funeral Home, 223 Ashley Blvd. All attendees are asked to wear face coverings.
