Emanuel DeSilva

September 27, 1928 — October 23, 2020

Emanuel DeSilva, 92, passed away at home on Friday, October 23rd. He was born in Mt. Vernon, NY, the son of the late Joao Silva and Victorina (Jardin) DaSilva and was the husband of the late Gladys (Almeida). Emanuel was a communicant of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church. He worked for many years as a laborer and was a member of the Laborer's Union. Emanuel was a long time member of the Club Madeirense SS Sacramento, Club Sport Madeira, and Club Recordacoes De Portugal. He was a Korean War Veteran, serving in the Army from 1951 to 1953 where he obtained the rank of PFC(T). He is survived by his son, Anthony DeSilva of Acushnet; daughter, Susan Glaser and husband Paul of Easton; Granddaughter, Tanya Baron of CT; great grandchildren, Quinn, Harper, and Stella Baron; Nieces and nephews, Alfie Silva of Acushnet, Diane Botelho of Acushnet, Paula Negalha of Fairhaven, Carolyn Rodrigues of Fairhaven and many other nieces and nephews; a special family friend, Doris Jenkins & Family. Emanuel is predeceased by his brothers; Frank daSilva, John Silva, Alfred Silva and sister, Virginia Pereira. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the SS Sacramento Scholarship Fund. His funeral mass will be 10:30am Wednesday, October 28th at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church with burial to follow in Massachusetts National Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7pm Tuesday, Oct. 27th at the Boulevard Funeral Home 223 Ashley Blvd. All attendees are required to wear face coverings. There will be limited attendance at the funeral home and church. Guests are asked to pay their respects and depart to allow the next guests to enter. There could be wait times outside the funeral home. Thank you for your cooperation.
