Maria Ott

January 7, 1934 — March 27, 2020

Maria Jose (Silva) Ott passed away Friday March 27, 2020 at St. Luke’s hospital. She was the wife of the late George L. Ott and daughter of the late Luis and Rosa (Pires) DaSilva. She was born in Abrantes, Portugal and had lived in New Bedford for many years. Maria was a communicant of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church. She was formerly as a stitcher at Calvin Clothing until her retirement. Maria was everyone’s cheerleader. She had a gift for making everyone in her life feel special, especially her Godchildren. Having never had children of her own, she doted on them and showed up for every important event with gifts, food, smiles and laughter. She was the life of the party. During her declining health, being the fighter that she was, she self-advocated in ways that would make even the most seasoned debater “give in”. She cared for her husband right up until his death, just 9 days before her own. She was a fearless fighter and protector of everyone she loved. Together they were known for their amazing house parties that left so many, with wonderful memories. Everyone was welcome. Everyone was treated like royalty. Her feistiness and generosity will be forever remembered by all her knew her. Survivors include her sister Ludovina Rosa DaSilva Santos in Viseu, Portugal, and Godchildren. Due to current restrictions her burial will be private for her immediate family.
